Actually he got it wrong. Nomads live in tribes and are extrrrrrrremely tribal. There is an untranslatable expression in classical Arabic (present in Ibn Khaldun but under a slightly different meaning) called عصبية that relates to such tribalism. You can distinguish between Semitic tribes & Levantine-Greek settled population as follows. Just open the Old Testament. People are defined by their lineage, X son of X son of X son of X… Same for Arab “clans”. For settled L-G: Athenadoros of Tyre, Antiochos of Laodicia, etc.

Bitcoinism, like Statism, Communism, Soviet Socialism, Architectural Modernism, Naive Scale-free Libertarianism, is a severe form of UTOPIANISM (what I called “Platonicity” in the Incerto). There is this destructive urge to reinvent utopianism under new unrecognized forms. 2) The internet DELIVERED immediately after the spread of the WWWeb. It did sneak up on us; it provided daily new PRACTICAL solutions. It was useful. It did not need a sect of losers telling us theories about “what it can do in the future”. It was delivering IN THE PRESENT.

When you invest/trade, you buy & you sell; you increase/decrease; you get stopped out/take profits; you revise dynamically; you protect your tail; you walk away when needed to clear your mind. Bitcoiners & amoebas think in binary form… & are convinced others must be doing so. 2) And the minute someone defines herself or himself as a “bitcoiner” like a national identity it becomes an irreversible ideological committment not an investment strategy. Actually it is a religion. You “belong” to a group of amoebas.

Gratitude to @JeffBezos : my Saga. 1) As an author, I owe Amazon. Before, publishers were subservient to bookstores & their book placement. So when I wrote FBR *on my own terms* it was a problem: fictional characters, math discussions, philosophy… Was it popularization? No. 2) Was it about finance? No. It’s about what? So no publisher. I found a weird outfit who accepted at ½ price. Bookstores were good at ignoring my work: why should a neighborhood bookstore isn’t interested in higher things, just moving books. Amazon did not have rigid shelves! 3) There is this romantic idea of the neighborhood bookstore out to save literature, social life, & thinking: these people survive on books that have a specific public. So the “monster” that drove them bust allowed me to get an audience I would’ve never had. 4)The worst were standard book editors whose employment is to make sure no author ever write on her/his own terms. They lectured me about “focus” (Me: “is your business to focus or to sell books”?). I exist (as an author) bec. of AMZN. Stores did everything to make me extinct. 5) By the time I moved FBR to RH the scenery had changed. I was lucky earlier publ went kaput. Publishers adapt. Not bookstores. It remains that the publishers model is to sell a lot of books quickly, then repeat. The notion of Lindy books is rare & hard to account for.
