Re: Napoleon. Explain to me how someone who won a lot of small battles then (literally) depleted his entire army can be seen as a brilliant general. It is like banks that make small money every year then lose their total capital during crises. Finally, Napoleon was a reckless gambler risking the lives of almost all French males of military age in a single bet.
